Diabetic Feet

If you have diabetes, then it’s even more important that you have your feet checked regularly.

At Feet for Purpose, my advice is:

    • check your feet every day for any changes,

    • cover any small wounds with a plaster,

    • limit walking barefoot to a minimum and

    • ask for medical assistance if you have any concerns about your feet.

A consequence of diabetes is that the small blood vessels are affected, reducing the amount of blood in the feet.

This can lead to delayed healing, so it’s important to dress any wound with a clean dressing such as a plaster.

The nerves can also be affected, leading to a loss of sensation in the feet - this makes them extremely vulnerable to injury.

The immune system can also be affected, making it very hard to fight off even simple infections.
